Bite-sized Wisdom: Genet

What are you all listening to these days? Here’s hoping that good music finds its way to you this weekend.

“Perhaps all music, even the newest, is not so much something discovered as something that re-emerges from where it lay buried in the memory, inaudible as a melody cut in a disc of flesh. A composer lets me hear a song that has always been shut up silent within me.”

– Jean Genet

  1. Great quote, great image and you probably wouldn’t believe it but the beauty of music made itself known to me a little later than some. Of course I had my teen music but those deeper instrumentals and songs with beautiful lyrics – they came later. And wow.

    Thanks for your support too!

  2. Hi,
That is truly fascinating the way they have put musical notes on the fence, how intriguing, a fair bit of work went into doing that, it looks great. 😀

  3. Great picture and great thought for the day… I’m thankfully still discovering great music every day and have yet to get “locked” into my own “good old days” music preferences… but what has been particularly fun is exposing my kids to some of my old favorites and, while they don’t always latch on, when they do hear something they really like and ask me to add it to their iPod it’s wonderful rediscovering the joy of those songs through them 🙂

    • That’s fantastic that you’re still accumulating! Keep on seeking out music for its unique qualities and you’ll never be disappointed. And so sweet that your kids want in on your musical taste.

      • It’s funny the songs they latch onto– a recent one was “Mexican Radio” by Wall of Voodoo… and some of my daughter’s friends (she’s 11) have latched onto it too, they all love it. Makes me feel like “the cool dad” hee hee! 🙂

Yes, as soon as I read that I realized…that is how it is. When music resonates with me there is a strange sort of feeling of ownership…logically I know I did not compose it…but somehow I feel its voice, its heart, even its soul is mine. Something essential feels released and alive at last…

    Love the image!
