America, America

Lookin’ good, America. I can only hope that when I’m 236 years old, I can still look this feisty. Take a glance at how certain trend setters are adding a dash of patriotism into their lineup to give a creative nod to the ol’ Stars and Stripes.

  1. Patriotism has pretty severe problems. Some people are willing to die for their country, just as some people are willing to die for their god. Others are willing to die doing battle against someone else’s country or god. Do I need to point out that all this is fatal? Wouldn’t you rather live? Have you ever read the poem “Dulce et Decorum Est”? Look it up.

Countries–that is, nation-states–are what we happen to live in nowadays, almost all of us, we 7 billion something on the planet. But I cannot for the life of me see why we should pat ourselves on the back for it, or wear a little flag pin on a lapel, as is now expected at high levels of American government. On the other hand, wearing a flag image such as shown here is pretty safe. As long as you stop there.

But who are these “trend setters”? You didn’t identify a single image.

    • A difficult an heartbreaking piece, yes I’ve read it. This post was not condoning or decrying war however, merely a lookbook for BBAJ, a production in the works. The show’s political nature will undoubtedly lend itself to discussions such as this though.

And as always, when an image is borrowed, Image Sources are linked at the bottom of the post.

      • From a lookbook for a show? Well, good, but you didn’t say that either. I wish you well of it. Keep in mind that flags will mean something whether you want them to or not.
